Free flu shots offered at Moorpark College

The Ventura County Public Health Agency recommends that, this coming flu season, everyone age 50 and over as well as children ages 6 months to 5 years should get a flu shot.

The agency will partner with Moorpark College to administer free flu shots through a drive-thru clinic from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 16 on the lower campus, turning into the maintenance and operations driveway off Collins Road.

Stay in the car. Staff and volunteers from the Moorpark College Nursing and Health Services Department will direct patrons to the clinic.

According to registered nurse Sharon Manakas, Moorpark College Health Services, this clinic is being run as a disaster drill for a potential flu pandemic.

"Should we ever have to administer thousands of doses in a very short timespan, a drive-thru clinic would be a logical delivery system," she said.

This year the flu shot will offer protection against A/Solomon Islands (new for this season), A/ Wisconsin and B/Malaysia strains of the flu virus.
