Pedestrian killed in morning darkness

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Chevy minivan driving southbound on Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks just north of Avenida de los Arboles early Monday morning.

The 49-year-old Simi Valley driver stopped, called 911 and rendered aid to Sean Brewer, 48, also of Simi Valley, Sgt. Don Aguilar said. The driver said Brewer was lying in the road when he was hit.

Police and firefighters arrived within minutes and firefighter paramedics treated Brewer, but he died at the scene, Aguilar said.

"This will be a lengthy investigation," Aguilar said.

Police are investigating whether another vehicle was involved in the accident and are seeking possible witnesses who could help shed some light on what happened, Aguilar said.

The accident occurred in the darkness at 5:26 a.m. There were patches of fog throughout the city.

There is no crosswalk where Brewer was hit and no known reason for him to have been out in the street, Aguilar said.
