Local woman wakes up to find intruder in bed Police are investigating as attempted sexual assault an incident that occurred early last Sunday at the Creekside Apartments on Patricia Avenue, according to Sgt. David Livingstone of the Simi Valley Police Department. Around 4:45 a.m. Sept. 30, police responded to a 911 call from a woman who said she had been awakened by a man who was sitting on the edge of her bed and massaging her legs. The woman, who chooses to keep her name and age confidential, woke up and yelled, causing the man to flee on foot from the apartment, the report states. As of Thursday, officers said they had no leads to the man's identity or whereabouts. "We take something like this very seriously," Livingstone said. "We're trying to do everything we can to identify who this person was." Police believe the man gained entry to the apartment through a sliding glass door, Livingstone said. Investigating officers spoke to neighbors in the apartment complex and searched throughout the surrounding area. "It's a bizarre case," Livingstone said. "It leads me to believe that there's probably some connection with the neighborhood." The man could be familiar with the layout of the woman's apartment complex, he said. "Nothing like this has happened before," Livingstone said. "There's no pattern to it that we can tell." The Simi Valley Police Department again reminded residents to exercise caution by locking the doors and windows of their homes. - Darleen Principe |
