County names its new fire marshal
      Christina Jamison has been named the county's new fire marshal. She took over the position Sept. 9, replacing Diane Morgan, who is retiring. Jamison has been a fire prevention officer for the Ventura County Fire Department for more than 12 years.

County bitten by first case of West Nile

      A man in his early 40s became the first person in Ventura County this year to be diagnosed with West Nile virus, health officials said in September. The man is now recovering in his home after being admitted to the hospital with high fever, nausea and vomiting.
