Celebrate Oktoberfest at Underwood

The Newbury Park Rotary Club will present its 21st annual Oktoberfest from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30 at Underwood Family Farms, 3370 Sunset Valley Road, Moorpark.

The two-day Oktoberfest will feature a 25-piece German band, the German dance and musical group Tänze der Gemütlichen Schuhplattler and the Spirit Cloggers.

Other performers include The Five Second Rule playing contemporary rock on Saturday afternoon and, on Sunday afternoon, The British Brass Band.

Both days will feature bestdressed Bavarian (lederhosen and dirndls) costume contests and stein-holding and beer-drinking contests. Prizes will be awarded to all winners.

Family activities at Underwood Farms include a petting zoo, giant sling shot, pickyourown pumpkins and a free hay ride with every entry ticket.

Authentic German food served will include bratwurst, sauerkraut and strudel, as well as a full food court for a variety of tastes. Piller's two-fisted pretzels will be flown in from Germany.

Oktoberfest 2007 beer mugs and Bavarian souvenirs will be for sale. Besides the main stage, a Showcase Stage will feature The School of Rock performances from 9 a.m. to noon both days and the Coveralls on Sunday afternoon.

The cost is $8.50 for adults; kids age 2 and under are admitted free. Parking is free. Tickets are available online at a $1discount.
