Religion vs. practice time

As a parent and grandparent of student athletes and also a Jew, I read Mr. Scherr's objections with interest. Then, to read the letters to the editor that hint of favoritism and discrimination bothered me even more. The solution is simple. School districts need to check a calendar before scheduling games, meets and playoffs. The holidays are all there.

Athletes should be allowed to miss a practice to observe their holiday without fear of not being allowed to play in the next event. This covers all religions. All it takes is some awareness and consideration. Marcia Schwartz, Simi Valley
