City's decision the right one

While the City Council has done many stupid things recently, which most people are not aware of since there is no requirement that the City Council inform all the residents of their actions, considering to charge for police services to protect the people due to the intentional actions of United Church of Christ is not one of them.

You said that the church had no control over what happened. I can't understand how you come to that conclusion. This church knowingly and willingly took in a person who is in the country illegally.

If that was not enough, under the terms of their agreement with the group that they are associated with, they were required to make a public statement about this. This is the intentional action which created the situation and caused the need for the police to be there.

Such actions are intended to be an "in your face, what are you going to do about it" statement, which quite clearly would result in a reaction, and they are completely responsible for that reaction and all that comes of it.

By the way, I find it quite interesting that many people say that we should not deport people who are in this country illegally. I have to wonder if they would feel the same way if a person entered their house illegally and refused to leave. I suspect that all of them would call the police to get the person removed.

To not deport a person who comes here illegally harms all of us, but especially those who want to come here and do so by legal means. If you want to make it easier for people to come here legally, then take action to change things, but it is still important to not reward those who have failed to follow the rules.

It is also important to realize that all of the people who are here illegally are also violating the law when in comes to working here.

Either they are breaking the law by not paying taxes or they are committing identity theft.

Are these the type of people we want? If they don't have to pay taxes, then why should the rest of us? Ken Sandberg Simi Valley
