Supports mayor '100 percent'

I read with interest the article regarding the harboring of an illegal by United Church of Christ. I have no idea when or how it has become an accepted practice to flout the law.

The law is quite clear. If you are in this country illegally and are caught, you will be deported, be you Russian, French, Mexican or any other nationality.

This is not a question of racism, as all who are protectors of illegals would have us believe. Simply put, 100 percent support Mayor Paul Miller and the City Council for presenting the bill to the pastor of the church.

The illegal problem in this country is a slap in the face to all good people who obeyed the law, went through the process of becoming citizens and now see what is happening throughout this country. I fully sympathize with any individual from any land who wishes to immigrate to the United States.

We have no room for racists in this country, but we do have just and fair laws that must be enforced in order to maintain equality in a nation as diverse as ours. Once the law is sidestepped the floodgates open for abuse.

If it's okay for illegals to stay in the U.S. without fear of deportation, what's next? Would it now mean it's okay to rob banks, euthanize the elderly or engage in other illegal activities without fear of swift and just punishment?

The illegal situation is not a racist agenda, rather one of upholding the law and deporting law breakers and those that condone this behavior. Richard Troy Simi Valley
