Applauds mayor's decision regarding sanctuary church Right on, Mayor Miller. Finally somebody with courage and intelligence applies common sense to a growing problem of people with good hearts protecting people who are in this country illegally. Rev. June Goudey went out of her way to make it known that her church and congregation made a decision to break the law. Now they must pay the price for this decision. Rev. Goudey is acting as if providing refuge for a criminal is not an issue and the consequence of going public with this lawless act, the resulting demonstration at the United Church of Christ, is simply "routine public service." Rev. June Goudey, I am not willing to subsidize your lawlessness. You and your congregation took on the responsibility to provide refuge to a criminal, y'all chose to make this act public, so you must pay the price. This is not a discrimination issue; United States immigration laws are not Jim Crow laws; Mayor Miller is no Bull Connor; UCC is no SCLC; and you are no Rev. Martin Luther King. I think the good people of the UCC congregation got suckered by a wannabe crusader who somehow confuses expediency for justice and maybe just wants her 15 minutes. Discrimination is wrong, period freakin' dot. So is crossing the border of the United States for the purpose of stealing a citizen's identity to take a job without proper credentials. This should not be a political issue; it is a criminal issue, no matter how many criminals say otherwise. Greg Clark Simi Valley |
