Applauds mayor's decision regarding sanctuary church
Right on, Mayor Miller. Finally somebody with courage and intelligence applies common sense to a growing problem of people with good hearts protecting people who are in this country illegally. Rev. June Goudey went out of her way to make it known that her church and congregation made a deci...

Mayor 'off base' for trying to bill church
Thank you for your editorial on the United Church of Christ in Simi. The Mayor of Simi is indeed way off base in charging the church for monitoring the demonstration last Sunday. Neither the church nor the protesters (pro and con) are breaking the law.

Church is responsible for creating situation
The city acted only after the church made a public political statement. If all they really wanted to do was hide someone and let them live here, they could have done it and no one would have known the difference, such as in the case of Anne Frank.

Supports mayor '100 percent'
I read with interest the article regarding the harboring of an illegal by United Church of Christ. I have no idea when or how it has become an accepted practice to flout the law. The law is quite clear. If you are in this country illegally and are caught, you will be deported, be you Russia...

If protest comes to city hall, will council bill itself?
I totally agree with your editorial. I live in Simi and do not agree with the mayor and the City Council on many issues- especially this one. Let's see if this decision applies when a group of protesters arrive at a council meeting and the local PD has to respond- will they send ...

Making headlines for the wrong reason
Once again, Simi Valley is receiving national notoriety for intolerance. I was raised here in Simi Valley, and my family has been in this country for four generations. I've traveled through most of this great nation in my adult life.

Cost of police work seems inflated
Am I the only one in the city of Simi Valley that thinks a $39,306 bill for policing a two hour anti-immigration rally is a tad excessive? I know our city is not crimeridden, but get real. Don't any police officers work for straight time?

City may have bigger concerns
Regarding the mayor's bill to the Simi Valley United Church of Christ, it occurs to me that, if the mayor's math is correct, Simi Valley has a much bigger problem than a church giving shelter to a young woman and her baby.

Simi Valley's image is just fine
In response to your editorial that Simi Valley has an image of intolerance (Sept. 21), I wish to inform you that my husband and I moved to Simi Valley two years ago precisely because of its image.

Simi is intolerant . . . of crime
Unbelievable! You describe the people and/or city of Simi Valley as suffering from an image problem? You claim that Simi has had a negative public image, specifically citing intolerance. Intolerance is why my family moved here.

Proud of city for standing up for what is right
Regarding the story in the Sept. 21 edition of the Simi Valley Acorn , here's a question to ponder: "What if my friend broke the law, and I then allowed him to seek refuge in my house or business, and on top of that, I publicly announced I was doing it and, with absolute arrogance, thumbe...

Church should stand its ground
Congratulations to Simi Valley and the United Church of Christ for caring enough for their fellow man to do something important albeit not popular with everyone.

City's decision the right one
While the City Council has done many stupid things recently, which most people are not aware of since there is no requirement that the City Council inform all the residents of their actions, considering to charge for police services to protect the people due to the intentional actions ...

Churches that offer sanctuary encourage others to do the same
Bravo to Mayor Paul Miller for his no-nonsense approach to something that will become more of a problem if not dealt with. The United Church of Christ should pay the fine imposed on them for the police costs due to the protests, not we the taxpayers.

Simi has quality hotels available
Simi Valley is not without quality hotels. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library brings many visitors to the city of Simi Valley, and those visitors do not stay outside of the city. Eliav Appelbaum writes that the city is looking to attract a luxury hotel to accommodate visitors, but makes no ...

Omitting present hotels was wrong
I was very disappointed in the omissions in your recent article regarding attracting luxury lodging in Simi Valley. It was very misleading as it did not mention anywhere that there are at least five hotels already here in Simi Valley each with its own charm and level of services.

Religion vs. practice time
As a parent and grandparent of student athletes and also a Jew, I read Mr. Scherr's objections with interest. Then, to read the letters to the editor that hint of favoritism and discrimination bothered me even more. The solution is simple. School districts need to check a calendar befor...
