Foundation offering two fun ways to contribute

The Amanda Vorhies Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps local families that have children with disabilities, will host two fundraising events: a golf tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Moorpark Country Club, 11800 Championship Drive, and a charity boutique on Sept. 29 at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.

Proceeds will benefit local families with the cost of medical treatment, education and research for disabilities. The golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Entries include golf cart, range balls, games, lunch, dinner, auction and raffle.

The boutique will be open free to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The vendors will donate a portion of their sales that day. Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 and $5.

Donations of raffle and auction items are requested, as well as tournament sponsors and boutique vendors. The foundation was created by a family with a daughter disabled with cerebral palsy.

The organization is raising money to build a backyard playground for a Simi Valley girl diagnosed with many different challenges, including mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and cortical blindness.
