May be more to neighbor's tattered lawn than meets the eye

This letter is in response to Randy Campbell's criticism of those in the neighborhood who do not keep up their homes. It probably means that there is a home in his neighborhood that is looking run-down.

Mr. Campbell, have you ever gone to the neighbor and asked if you could help them? I have, but I am not physically able to give them any more than moral support.

My neighbor is not well and is having financial difficulty right now. She has had to turn off her sprinklers because she can't afford the water bill.

To my knowledge no ablebodied man has come to see her and offer to help her get things back to what she loved for many years.

Maybe you are what California foreigners refer to as "those unfriendly Californians." It seems you want that neighbor to live up to your standard but are not willing to help them do so as they are obviously in trouble.

All you can probably hope for is that the neighbor dies and that the house is sold to someone who is able to care for it. Apparently her immediate neighbors are just like you- lots of criticism but no overt friendliness.

Maybe a change in your attitude and a hand of friendliness is in order. Nan Mills Simi Valley
