Dismayed over Spanish-speaking job requirement

I have lived in Simi Valley for many, many years. I find in my retirement I am in need of an income supplement.

So when my grandson brought home a want ad for the local Simi Valley schools, I was very happy. They needed school bus drivers, cafeteria workers and others.

I felt here was a chance for me to make a little extra money and contribute my skills as a chef or helper/dishwasher to the school system. I gingerly went online to apply, but to my dismay I was told that only people speaking Spanish would be considered. I almost sat down and cried.

I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps; I have worked in fine hotels and also had my own restaurant for many years. I have helped non-English-speaking people for years. I never believed it would bite me in the behind. David Duvos Simi Valley
