SVUSD appoints director of elementary education

The Simi Valley Unified School District Board of Education has approved the appointment of Dr. Deborah Riley as the school district's new director of elementary education.

Riley was the principal of Abraham Lincoln Elementary School from August 2002 through June 2007. For the past two months she has served as principal of Berylwood Elementary School.

Prior to coming to the SVUSD she served as an elementary school principal for 10 years in Tennessee and for seven years in the state of Washington.

Riley earned her bachelor's degree from Memphis State University and master's and doctorate degrees in educational administration and supervision form the University of Memphis.

To replace Riley the education board promoted Nidia Grijalva-Imbler to principal of Berylwood.

Grijalva-Imbler has served as the Elementary School Title I Coordinator since August 2005. Prior to that, she served as principal of Apollo High School for six years.
