Accused Simi Valley doctor put on temporary leave A doctor from Simi Valley Hospital agreed Monday to the temporary suspension of his medical license after being arrested in July on charges of sexual battery. Dr. Shamim Amini, a 34year-old Moorpark resident, is scheduled to appear in an administrative hearing with the Medical Board of California on Sept. 4, said Debbie Nelson, associate analyst at the board. Amini was arrested July 6, after two women separately alleged they were assaulted during routine emergency room visits. He was released five days later because the district attorney's office was not ready to file charges. According to police reports, at least one of the victims was either unconscious or incapable of resisting at the time of the alleged sexual assault. Amini is scheduled to appear back in court on Oct. 9. The doctor began practicing medicine at the Simi Valley Hospital in July 2006. He graduated from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada and completed his residency at the University Hospital-State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse. According to hospital officials, Amini has no prior criminal record, as was determined by a background check performed during the hiring process. - Darleen Principe |
