Since when did we start putting dogs before humans? In response to the articles written in the July 27, 2007, issue of the Simi Valley Acorn, on the cover: "Plans for Simi's first dog park approved at Big Sky." On pages 8 and 9, "Skateboarding in parks a problem." What has this city come to where a dog is worth more than a human being? I have lived in Simi Valley since 1966 and have raised two boys. My youngest son was "stopped" by a park ranger, handcuffed, threatened with Mace and given a citation. This was his first offense for skateboarding. Yes, we did go to court. I know the damage skateboarding does, but I know children and adults who skateboard do it for the love of skating, not to destroy, but to challenge themselves. Yes, they will get hurt. We know, that is the chance you take with any sport. Now, a dog, well, they bite and kill. I have been bitten by two dogs in Simi. Have you ever been chased down by a German shepherd? I was around 8 years old, riding my bike, terrified and screaming, then bitten. I have been around skaters for a long time and no one has ever bitten me. When has a dog become more important than a child? What happened to: The children are our future? Carrie Viveiros Simi Valley |
