Don't complain, build a skate park

In regards to Meg Boberg's July 27 article on skateboarding in public parks, this wouldn't be a problem if kids had a place to skate.

Skatelab is a great place to skate, but some kids can't afford the $10 to skate there. My brother and I love to skate, but we're limited to where we can go because of all the park rules.

About six months ago, my brother was skating at Rancho Simi Park on Erringer Road and was stopped by a ranger, given a ticket ($190) and had to go to court. He was not causing damage, just skating on the sidewalk. I think this is unfair.

My recommendation is for the city to build an outdoor skate park that is free for kids to skate. There are free skate parks in other cities, but they are too far for us to travel.

So give us a place to skate, and we'll stay out of your parks! Duncan Robertson, 12 Simi Valley
