Emergency services department in search of new CERT members

The city of Simi Valley office of emergency services is accepting applications for the next Community Emergency Response Team training program.

Applications will be accepted on a firstcome, firstserved basis until Friday, Aug. 24 and can be mailed or delivered to Theresa Adams, CERT Program coordinator, city of Simi Valley office of emergency services, 3901 Alamo St., Simi Valley, CA 93063.

The CERT program will provide participants with hands-on training covering disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology and team leadership. In order to graduate, participants must attend each of the seven scheduled classes.

The first meeting is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 in the emergency operations center at 3901 Alamo St. Classes take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays for six consecutive weeks.

The final practical exercise class is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 and will be held at the Ventura County Regional Fire Training Center in Camarillo.

CERT applications are available at the Simi Valley Police Department and on the city's website.
