Second surprise sobriety checkpoint of year on way

The Simi Valley Police Department will conduct a licensing and sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city sometime within the next two weeks.

The goal of the checkpoint is to arrest drivers who are operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and ensure that all motorists are properly licensed.

Drivers passing through the checkpoint will be delayed briefly while their driving status is verified. Other observed violations such as unfastened seatbelts and open containers of alcohol will be enforced.

This will be the second driver's license and sobriety checkpoint of 2007 and the third in a series of four checkpoints funded by a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
