Fireworks show was wonderful for residents of Simi

I want to congratulate the Rotary Club of Simi Valley and the Simi Valley Police and Fire departments for putting on a wonderful Independence Day show this year for our residents. The event was very well organized and pleasant to attend.

I also want to thank the Walter Lantz Foundation and other sponsors for their charitable contributions for this successful event. A major improvement was made this year in attempting to crack down on illegal fireworks that plagued Simi Valley last year.

In past years I often found bottle rocket debris in my yard and on my rooftop. In past years I could not fully enjoy the event for concern of property damage as well as personal physical injury.

An improvement has been made this year, but the threat has not been eliminated. I heard large explosions of illegal fireworks until near midnight. I hope that next year even more stringent regulations are put into place.

Other communities need to join Simi Valley in eliminating this hazard. If officials in Fillmore had a conscience, they would also shut down their operation of selling fireworks and find a more productive means of generating revenue. Ron Russell Simi Valley
