Board of Supervisors meeting will be in Simi
By Sylvie Belmond belmond@theacorn.com

Simi Valley residents won't have to go far to see how county leaders work when the Ventura County Board of Supervisors meets in the City Council chambers at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 17.

The local meeting was arranged by 4th District Supervisor Peter Foy.

"It's part of my goal to bring government to the people," he said.

The agenda will be lighter than usual because of time constraints, but supervisors will still conduct a regular meeting.

"I want people to really see what goes on, how issues are being discussed," Foy said.

The board occasionally meets at a site other than the Ventura County Government Center but not often, said Supervisor Linda Parks, who represents the 2nd District.

Supervisors met in Thousand Oaks once when Parks was mayor of that city because many of its residents opposed the Lang Dam project being constructed by the county's flood control department and the city of Thousand Oaks.

"That particular meeting was very heated as dozens of citizens, including me, came out to voice their objection to putting the dam in the ancient oak grove in Oakbrook Park," Parks said.

Since she was elected to represent the 2nd District, Parks said, she facilitated the televising of board meetings in Thousand Oaks to give residents a greater opportunity to see their board in action.

Live and archived broadcasts of the meetings may also be seen online at www.ventura.org.

County officials also met once in Fillmore to discuss another controversial flood control project proposed in the Santa Clara River.
