Rotary donation keeps wheels rolling

The Rotary Club of Simi Sunset recently presented a check for $1,000 to Virgil Stites from the Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program.

At each weekly Rotary meeting, speakers present brief presentations on a wide range of topics. A donation is made to the Meals on Wheels program for each speaker. The $1,000 check represents the total of those donations.

The Meals on Wheels Program was created in October 1974 in response to a request from a senior. Presently more than 1,000 meals are delivered each month to homebound seniors in Simi Valley.

The program has expanded from delivering two meals a week to daily delivery of a hot, midday meal, excluding weekends and major holidays. The Rotary Club of Simi Sunset's fundraisers benefit both local and national projects.
