What is the purpose of life?
"To live life to the fullest in a positive way. To use all your talents to make a contribution in the world. To be the best you can be. To have a balance with the physical existence and acknowledge there is a spiritual existence to life also."
What must humankind do to get into heaven?
"One of our traditions says everyone has a place in heaven. Good deeds lead one to heaven."
What is your belief in heaven or hell?
"There's a heaven and a hell, not so much of a description. It's more in a spiritual realm. The soul lives on, so it's spiritual."
What is the role of the temple in the community?
"To provide a center for Jewish life and learning. I always like to say the temple is a family of families. Everyone is welcome. Judaism is twofold- home-based and what the community provides for people: learning, education, friendship, spirituality and a sense of belonging."
What is the temple's view on gay rights and abortion?
"If someone is gay and wants to be part of our community, they are welcome. Abortion is a personal choice."
Women's role in the temple?
"We are fully egalitarian. Everyone can participate. I am a woman and a rabbi."
What is your view on ecology issues?
"Judaism has always had a strong emphasis on taking care of
the environment and nature. We certainly want to make the world a better place. The first story in the Bible is about Creation. We have many prayers acknowledging the beauty and grandeur of Creation. We certainly want to do everything we can to recycle and reduce air pollution."
