Salon raises $2,400 to help cancer patients A New Technique Salon in Simi Valley, all Glittered and Glammed, hosted a cut-a-thon to support Inspire Change and raised $2,400 to improve the lives of cancer patients, one head at a time. Inspire Change is a partnership that Redken 5th Avenue NYC has formed with Couture For Cancer, a nonprofit organization that donates custom-made nonsurgical human hair replacement systems free of charge to cancer patients worldwide. The salon staff, all dressed in couture-style gowns and tiaras, raised the money by giving haircuts and selling raffle tickets and goodie bags. "Our goal is to reach $3,000 by the end of the month by continuing to collect donations," said Lynda Miller, A New Technique salon owner and recipient of the hair replacement system. "We are honored to support Inspire Change and help those suffering from cancer to look and feel beautiful during this difficult time in their lives," she said. "I received my custom wig in April, and I can't say enough wonderful things about the quality and comfort of these custom wigs." One hundred percent of the funds raised by A New Technique for Inspire Change will be directly given to fund the production of at least 1,000 hair systems, which have a retail cost of $3,500, for approved recipients. Founded in 2006 by Redken salon owner Mario Mazza, Couture For Cancer's mission is to change the lives of cancer patients by boosting their selfconfidence and personal outlook after the loss of their hair due to chemotherapy This is the third cut-a-thon for A New Technique salon, but the first for this organization. The salon has raised a total of $8,000 for cancer patients. For more information regarding the wigs, call Miller at (805) 5278585.
