Resident killed in freak accident at Cal Lutheran

Roger J. Curtis of Simi Valley died Monday at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks when a utility cart he was driving crashed into a curb and overturned at around 12:15 p.m. Curtis was employed in the facilities department at CLU.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicated the 59-year-old man died from injuries suffered in the cart incident. Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor.

Curtis' wife, Linda, described her husband as a loving husband and father. He is survived by his son, Robby Curtis of Orange County; daughter, Christine Marshall of Atlanta; and grandchildren Christopher Marshall, 10, and Evan Marshall, 7.

The Curtises have lived in Simi Valley for 29 years and attend Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Curtis enjoyed camping trips and classic rock music, Linda Curtis said.

"We'd spent the weekend camping at McGrath Park in Oxnard," she said.

Curtis loved animals, his wife said. To make a donation in his honor to the Ventura County Humane Society, call (805) 646-6505.
