Auditions to begin Saturday for musical 'Bye Bye Birdie' The High Street Arts Center is casting for the musical comedy "Bye Bye Birdie" by Michael Stewart, Charles Strouse and Lee Adams. Will Shupe will direct, with Paul Taylor as musical director and Dani Brown as choreographer. Auditions will be at the High Street Arts Center, 45 E. High St., Moorpark. Singers will try out from 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, June 23. Dancer auditions are from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 24. Actors must attend both singing and dancing auditions. No phone calls. Callbacks will be Mon., June 25. Performances are Aug. 10 through Sept. 16 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the High Street Arts Center. All roles are open and there is no pay. High school teens are needed who sing, harmonize and move well. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Teen roles include: Kim Macafee, 15, pretty and selfpossessed; Randolph Macafee, Kim's younger brother; Hugo Peabody, Kim's steady; Ursula Merkle, an enthusiastic dark haired teen friend, Kim's neighbor; and Conrad Birdie, 18 to 21, rock star. Men and women of all ages are needed for adult roles. All ethnicities encouraged to audition. Seeking adults who sing, harmonize and move well. Adult roles include Albert Peterson, 30s, music corporation president; Rose Alverez, Albert's secretary, principle dancer, singer; Harry Macafee, Kim and Randolph's father; Doris Macafee, Kim and Randolph's mother; Mae Peterson, Albert's mother, quintessential "mamma" and Mayor of Sweet Apple, Ohio. |
