7 arrested at DUI checkpoint

Personnel from the Simi Valley Police Department conducted a sobriety/license checkpoint from 9 p.m. June 15 through 2:30 a.m. June 16 in the 2900 block of Alamo Street.

During the evening approximately 420 motorists were briefly detained and asked to present their driver's license. Officers also looked for indications of alcoholic drinking.

Four motorists were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

An additional subject was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana in a vehicle.

Two other persons were arrested for driving with suspended licenses.

Officers also issued 18 citations for a variety of vehicle code violations. Nine citations were issued to individuals driving without a valid license.

As a result of the arrests and citations, 12 vehicles were stored or impounded. The checkpoint was staffed by 17 officers, two police service assistants and two police dispatchers.

This was the first driver's license and sobriety checkpoint for this year and the second in a series of four checkpoints funded by a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
