GBHS standout students

Brianna Foy
Brianna Foy

Brianna Foy, the daughter of Steve and Kimber Foy, earned highest honors all four years while at Grace Brethren.

The editor of the student newspaper, Brianna also took time out from her studies to participate in softball, basketball and school leadership. She is a Reagan Scholar and a member of the California Scholarship Federation.

Brianna said her plans after graduation are to attend The Master's College and study communications with a focus on print media. The 18-year-old said her favorite classes at Grace were Bible classes because "The teachers taught me so much and always answered my questions."

Mark Sweeney

Mark Sweeney, the son of Rick and Holly Sweeney, is the valedictorian of Grace Brethren's class of 2007.

During his time at Grace, Mark participated in the National Art Society, cross country, soccer and volleyball. Mark was the captain of the Lancer's varsity soccer team this past year and was named Defensive MVP.

Mark said his favorite subject while in high school was ancient Hebrew history because of "all the intense, mind-blowing debates that rocked my little world."

The 18-year-old, who said he'd like to be a novelist or a journalist, is attending UC San Diego this fall.

Leslie Windham

Leslie Windham, the daughter of William and Kelley Windham, was voted by her peers as Grace's best all-around female athlete her senior year. She also served as the chapel band worship leader.

While at GBHS, Leslie won a Southern Section Div. VAA volleyball championship and was consistently named to the CIF AllAcademic volleyball and basketball teams An all-league basketball and volleyball player, the 18-year-old was captain of both teams during her tenure at Grace. She was also this fall's homecoming queen.

Leslie plans to attend The Master's College on a volleyball scholarship and wants to earn a degree in kinesiology. In 10 years she sees herself married and teaching as well as coaching volleyball.

Andrew Ruiz

Andrew Ruiz, the son of Debra and Robert Ruiz, is the salutatorian for GBHS class of 2007.

Leslie Windham
While in high school, Andrew served as ASB vicepresident, was a junior volunteer at Los Robles Hospital and gave up many hours of service to Grace Brethren Church.

A member of the varsity cross country and soccer teams, the 17year-old said his favorite subject at Grace was calculus because "It's so practical and usable."

Andrew is attending UC San Diego this fall to pursue a degree in cognitive science and said in 10 years he sees himself "possibly serving as a missionary in Africa as a doctor."

Stephanie Ottinger

Stephanie Ottinger, daughter of Ray and Tina Ottinger, served as assistant director for different school productions while at Grace Brethren.

Graduating with highest honors, the 17yearold participated in basketball, softball and technical theater during her four years at GBHS.

She was also a member of the California Scholarship Federation.

Stephanie, who will be attending USC to pursue a degree in cinematic arts, said she would like to be a director in the film industry. She said the biggest influence on her life has been her parents, who "always encouraged me to go after what I want and have always been there for me."
