Soroptimists to set up shop in Simi

Soroptimist International of the Americas is forming a new club in Simi Valley and looking for founding members.

The club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14 at Maverick's Restaurant and Bar, 5225 Cochran St., Simi Valley.

The guest speaker is Sandy Schultz, Soroptimist International of the Americas board member. She will present a program on the club's International Service Project: Project Independence and also share her experiences in Rwanda, where she saw Soroptimists' humanitarian efforts.

The cost is $12, which includes dinner, beverage, tax and tip.

Founded in 1921, Soroptimist is an international organization for business and professional women who provide volunteer service to their communities. Almost 100,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects benefiting women and girls.
