Upcoming highlights at National History Museum

The following programs are presented by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles. For more information, call (213) 7633466 or visit www.nhm.org.

+The last of the season's First Fridays will be 5 to 10 p.m. June 1. Nancy Knowlton, founder and director of the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation, and science writer Margaret Wertheim will discuss how humans will be able to adapt to the ocean biosphere. The museum's film "Adaptation at the Ocean's Edge" will be premiered.

+The museum's research and collections staff will offer lectures and presentations every Saturday.

+Critter Club, for children ages 3 to 5, will present Ocean Commotion from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9.

+Ocean expeditions will be the topic of Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 16.

+The Discovery Center will reopen at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23. The center's live animal collection includes snakes, fish, turtles and lizards as well as an insect zoo. Visitors can interact with the animals.

+A bookmaking class will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30. Book design artist Wendy Poma will lead participants in creating three small books. Advance registration is required; call (213) 763-3348. Cost is $45 for members, $50 for nonmembers.

Museum hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and holidays.

Admission is $9 adults, $6.50 students and seniors, and $2 children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 are admitted free, and admission is free for everybody the first Tuesday of each month.
