Local runners at first Gator Run headline list of top finishers

The 2007 inaugural Gator Run 5K/10K Run/Walk, presented by the Rotary Club of Simi Sunset, hosted more than 550 runners and walkers who crossed the starting line early Sunday morning. Participants came from as far away as Ohio.

"We are so excited with the turnout and consider our very first road race a success" said race organizer Lynda Nickolai. "We attracted both very competitive racers as well as the casual runners, and everyone seemed to have fun."

The top three female finishers in the 5K were: first place, Tiffanie Marley from Lake Hughes, Calif.; second place, Lara Ray from Camarillo; and third place, Sarah Baxter from Simi Valley.

Top three male finishers in the 5K were: first place, Justin Patananan; second place, Christopher Coleman from Moorpark; and third place, Bruce Vermaat.

The top three female finishers in the 10K were: first place, Erin Wharton from Thousand Oaks; second place, Susan Duenas; and third place, Suzanne Hollister.

Top three male finishers in the 10K were: first place, Robert Leonardo from Lancaster; second place, Jason Pedersen from Simi Valley; and third place, Jeff Snyder from Pasadena.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Ventura County Fire Department's Fallen Firefighter Memorial Fund.
