Upset over story about resident who was struck by police cruiser

I am writing to you to express my disappointment in the article posted in the May 18 edition of your paper concerning the incident involving Mark Weiler and the SVPD.

It seems rather harsh to categorize someone as a "suspected criminal" when the facts are unknown.

Mr. Weiler seems to have been tried and convicted by Mr. Jorrey without the courtesy of trial.

This is an unacceptable way in which to treat your readers (a group that includes Mr. Weiler) and a disservice to your subscribers.

I would hope in the future that your reporters spend more time gathering the facts rather than subjecting your paper to criticism for the sake of selling copy.

An apology should be made to the family of Mr. Weiler as well as to your readers who look to you for accurate reporting and not sensationalism. Alan Franks Simi Valley
