Weather in Simi expected to get 'chili'
KOC's Chili Cook-off celebrates 20 years

The Knights of Columbus, Simi Valley Council No. 5803 will present the 20th annual Chili Cook-off and Car Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at St. Rose of Lima School, behind the church at 1305 Royal Ave., Simi Valley.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12, seniors and disabled. Chili taste tickets are 50 cents each.

Overflow parking will be allowed at Royal High School across the street from the church.

Chili cooking will start at noon; judging will be at 4 p.m.

The cook-off is sanctioned by the International Chili Society, and cooks will compete for the Best Chili award plus cash prizes for first, second and third place. The first place winner will be eligible to compete in the World's Championship Chili Cook-off regional semifinals this summer.

People's Choice winners will receive cash prizes and trophies. Other competitions include best booth and best showmanship.

Entrance requirement for cooks competing for the championship is a minimum of five gallons of People's Choice chili. Noncompeting cooks will be charged a $42 entry fee.

The car show will feature categories including classic, custom, street rods and muscle cars and motorcycles. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the winners, including Best in Show.

Entrance fee is $20 until Sunday, May 27 and $25 thereafter.

Entry is limited to 100 vehicles; preregistration is recommended. Awards will be presented around 2:30 p.m.

Other activities include a rock climbing wall, moon bounce, water balloon sling shots and entertainment from Sour Cream and Jive and the Royal High School cheerleaders. There will also be a variety of arts and crafts vendors and food booths.

Proceeds from the cook-off will benefit the Knights council in its charitable work.
