New scholarships available to local students The Simi Valley Education Foundation announced the formation of a new scholarship endowment program for Simi Valley Unified School District high school seniors. This program was established to honor the donor's wish to provide community college scholarships this spring for students who cannot afford to fund their own education but who demonstrate a strong desire to succeed by obtaining a college education. Scholarship recipients must attend a local community college on a fulltime basis, a minimum of 12 semester units, beginning this fall. Each scholarship will provide $1,000 each year for two years. Following are the scholarship requirements: +The recipients must have a financial need. +The recipients should be students who have tremendous potential, but may not necessarily have outstanding grades. The committee will be looking for individuals who have shown significant improvement or promise of future success during their high school careers. +Applicants must provide an official copy of their high school transcript for the first seven semesters of high school. Applications are available at the career centers of Royal, Simi Valley, Santa Susana and Apollo high schools. Three high school graduates will be selected from these four schools. For further information, call the Simi Valley Education Foundation at (877) 746-4543 or visit www.svef.org. |
