Trio of teens arrested on suspicion of grand theft

Three Simi teenagers were arrested Wednesday, May 2 for allegedly stealing property from vehicles parked along residential streets.

The Simi Valley Police Department received a late-night tip about people looking into vehicles in the area of Garvin Avenue and Lee Street in Simi Valley.

When officers arrived at 1:55 a.m., a vehicle was seen leaving the area. In the vehicle were Alejandro Gonzales, 19; Alejandro Pena, 18; and Kenneth Lawson, 19.

The officers stopped the vehicle and reportedly were given consent to do a search.

In addition to finding miscellaneous property, officers also found marijuana in the car.

The three men were subsequently arrested on suspicion of grand theft from vehicles and cited for possession of marijuana.

The charge of grand theft stems from the fact that the stolen property is valued at more than $400.

Grand theft can be charged as a misdemeanor or felony and is punishable by up to one year in county jail or 16 months in state prison.

The investigation is ongoing.

Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and criminal complaint against those responsible for these types of crimes.

The caller may remain anonymous, and the call is not recorded.

Call Crime Stoppers at 494TALK (8255) in Simi Valley.
