Believes faith columnist's words contradict Bible's teachings

It would appear that Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones does not practice what he preaches.

His April 20 column ("If your life were a house") calls for us to build our lives on the truth that Jesus came to teach. Yet a quick review of his church's doctrine reveals a seemingly flagrant disregard for what Jesus taught, as well as for the Bible, which his church describes as "a valuable source of truth."

According to Dr. Jones' website (www.onespirit.org), God isn't a God of anger, judgment, or punishment. This doctrine violates the truth of Nahum 1:3-6, Matthew 13:40-42, and John 5:28-30.

Dr. Jones' website teaches that Jesus is not our savior. This statement violates the truth of John 3:16-18, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Romans 3:22-25, and Romans 6:23.

Dr. Jones' website states that they worship no one or no thing. This conflicts with the truth of Matthew 4:10, where Jesus says to worship God and serve Him only (also see Rev. 22:8 & 9).

Lastly, again in his April 20 column, Dr. Jones alludes to the notion that just as Jesus claimed equality with God (John 10:30, John 14:9), all of us are also God, being equals to Jesus. Is that truth?

Are we sinless and pure as Jesus was? Can we raise the dead as Jesus did? Not even close. Shall we simply ignore the truth of John 3:18, which says Jesus is God's "one and only" son?

Yes, Dr. Jones, as your website proclaims, the truth will surely set you free. So when are you going to start teaching it?

Your website defines the term truth as "changeless." Yet you change it! Given the fact that Jesus said, "Worship God, and serve Him only," but you teach that "we worship no one or no thing," what else are we to conclude? Why do you honor the truth of Matthew 7:24, but then dishonor the truth of Matthew 4:10? Is Chapter 4 any less of a truth than Chapter 7?

It gives me no great pleasure to write this letter. I had hoped that some other Christian in this community, of higher qualification, would have sooner addressed the Biblically contradicting doctrines of Dr. Jones' church, to which The Acorn has given a platform, and how he continually (and insultingly), in his bi-weekly column, reduces Jesus, "our great God and savior" (Titus 2:13), to just another teacher.

The notion that Jesus was merely a teacher is antithetical to the Biblical record. Mark Buchler Simi Valley
