Gator Run will raise money for fallen firefighter memorial Proceeds from the 2007 Inaugural Gator Run 5K/10K Run/ Walk, coming this May, will benefit the Ventura County Fire Department's "Fallen Firefighter Memorial Fund." The Rotary Club of Simi Sunset will present the event on Sunday, May 27 at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park in Simi Valley. On March 29, ground was broken on the lawn of Ventura County's Government Center for a memorial to pay tribute to county firefighters who gave their lives in service. Names of the fallen firefighters will be placed on the pedestal of a bronze statue of a firefighter holding a child. The memorial is the joint effort of Ventura County Fire Chiefs Association, Professional Firefighter Associations and the Rotary Clubs of Ventura County. Those who register early for Gator Run will receive a free commemorative pin. Included in the entry fees are bib number, T-shirt, one free ticket to the Cajun Creole Music Festival, door prizes and refreshments. The top three winners for males and females in both races will receive prize money. Awards will go to the top three finishers in each age group category. Register online at www. active.com.
