Still no plea entered in Torres murder case

Simi Valley murder suspect Daniel Ramirez, 22, appeared twice in a Ventura County courtroom this week for arraignment in the shooting death of Luis Torres, only to have the case continued to a later date on both occasions.

Ramirez was arrested by Simi Valley police on St. Patrick's Day and charged with the first degree murder of 18-year-old Torres, who was found Jan. 26 in the area of Third Street and Ashland Avenue. Police have reported that Ramirez is a Simi Valley gang member but have not released any details of the case against him.

On Wednesday, the case was continued until April 25 when public defender William Quest declared a conflict and excused himself from the case.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Maeve Fox is handling the case for the state.
