FREEWAY WIDENING- California Department of Transportation workers stand next to the 118 Freeway near the Rocky Peak exit, where a long-awaited widening project is about to begin. The November passage of a $20 million transportation bond helped kick-start the project, which was originally planned for 2003 but was held back due to funding. The widening will add an extra lane to both sides of the freeway from Tapo Canyon Road to the Los Angeles County line, and is expected to take about three years to complete. A groundbreaking ceremony took place Thursday.
