Free program for teens will focus on social change, leadership skills, improv

Straight Up! Ventura County, a nonprofit organization focused on community change to reduce underage and binge drinking, will offer an opportunity for young adults ages 15 to 25 to explore the world of reality improv, video and social change theater while making a difference in the community.

A workshop is scheduled for Monday through Friday, April 9 to 13 at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 E. Los Angeles Ave.

The program will include workshops in reality and comedy improv, training in social change theater, community presentations, leadership skills development, and video and multimedia exploration.

Participants will learn more about the issue of underage and binge drinking, take part in prevention activities, build their resumes and earn letters of recommendation for college and job applications. Participants may qualify for an internship.

There is no cost to participate but space is limited and reservations are required.

To sign up, call Katherine Boring at (805) 647-4622 or e-mail katherine@straightupvc.org.

Straight Up! is a project of Ventura County Limits and is made possible through funding from the Ventura County Behavioral Health Department Alcohol and Drug Prevention Division.
