Simi man arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend

A Simi Valley man was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder after police responding to a 9 p.m. domestic violence call found a woman stabbed in the head, neck and chest.

Sgt. Jeff Dominick said officers arrested Matthew Shear, 24, on the scene in the 1900 block of Stoney Peak Court after a short struggle. Shear was treated at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center for a cut on his hand before being booked into Ventura County Jail.

He remained there Thursday without the possibility of bail. Shear's next court appearance is set for April 30.

The 42-year-old victim, also a Simi resident, was taken to Simi Valley Hospital in serious condition and treated for what Dominick described as "serious" but "not life-threatening" stab wounds.

Dominick reported that officers had responded to calls at Shear's residence before Friday's violent incident.

"Officers have been out there several times, and at least one other time for domestic violence," said Dominick, who added that the other calls were related to noise disturbances.
