Neighbors work together to rebuild community's sign As you drive west on the 118, our Happy Face Hill smiles at those entering our valley, and a Triple Heart is on the backside to let you know that we are a community with lots of love to give. We are a community of friendly citizens with pride and spirit. This became evident when a sign at the 1980s Indian Hills Ranch development fell down due to termites, dry rot and age. The city was contacted but has an ordinance not to replace any signs for housing developments. In the spirit of helpfulness, Kurt Dalhgren and Kurt Hartman of the Department of Public Works were instrumental in granting city permits to construct a new sign. The sign needed financing as well as a craftsman to do the work. Alex Gandel of Troop Realty donated $465 to finance the sign, and David Martin donated 80 hours of his time to craft the sign. Three neighbors, Brian Haupt, Scott Sevcik and Dave Carston, pitched in to help lift the 500-pound sign into place while Martin bolted it to the wall. People such as these are the threads that are weaving a patchwork of cooperation throughout our community. Thanks to all who participated in this effort. It's an honor to live in this terrific city of Simi Valley. Lani Martin Simi Valley |
