Lessons from teen's death in SUV crash I agree that the death of a young man is tragic. However, I feel very little sympathy as Daniel Crane was, at the time of his demise, in violation of at least five provisions of our state's vehicle code, a number of which apply specifically to newly licensed drivers. As for his parents, and assuming that the deceased resided with them, where were they when their newly licensed driver was flaunting the vehicle code, to wit, curfew, etc? I am 66 years old with a 20year-old son. When he lived with us (he is now in college out of the area), I monitored his "doings" as they related to driving on an hourly basis. On one occasion shortly after getting his license and during the period he was prohibited from driving with a passenger under the age of (I believe) 21, I observed him with a passenger coming home from high school. For the next week I drove him to school, picked him up, and watched as he was embarrassed to death in front of his peers. Daniel Crane's "turnaround" was a myth. He sold a bill of goods to someone.
