Universal design a positive move for Simi Valley

As a mother who's struggled with a baby, a toddler and a stroller just getting up steps to the doorway, or, when pregnant, looking for something to hold on to when climbing into a tub, the universal design features approved by our City Council ("Grassroots effort leads to change in Simi building code," Jan 19) make our living spaces not only safer but more enjoyable.

Thanks to the hard work of citizens like Judy Pepiot and the visionary leadership of deputy director Ron Bruce and the planning commission, in addition to our seniors and "disabled" citizens, we will all benefit from such life-affirming changes. Laura Sharp Simi Valley
