Not in favor of city's peddling ordinance

I am extremely dismayed by the Simi Valley City Council's effort to inhibit independent street vendors.

I believe that the free enterprise system and the community benefit from this segment of entrepreneur. Among the benefits are freshness and quality of product and convenience.

The trash issue can and should be dealt with as its own issue; both vendors and customers are responsible. Litter warnings can be relayed by vendors to customers. Licenses could be suspended or revoked if trash containers are not provided and used.

Why are the City Council members trying to limit competition? Is this xenophobia? I am sad to see freedom slowly legislated away.

There are more pressing problems that need attention. Civility in public and on the road urgently need attention. John Klette Simi Valley
