Elks honor those who serve and protect

The Simi Valley Elks Lodge recently honored Simi Valley police officer Rick Morton, CHP officer Steven Marchant Sr., Ventura County Dep. Sheriff Cesar Salas and Ventura County firefighter Steven Kaufmann.

Each honoree was chosen for his dedication, his work ethic and other virtues he brings to the job, according to the Elks.

A plaque was presented to each officer by his commander.

In attendance were Ventura County Supervisor Peter Foy, U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (RThousand Oaks) and Simi Valley Mayor Paul Miller.

Entertainment was provided by the Royal High School Band.
