Investigation continues into home invasion robbery
By Kyle Jorrey kjorrey@theacorn.com

Local police are still uncertain what drove four people from Los Angeles to allegedly attempt an armed home invasion robbery on Nelda Street in Simi Valley two weeks ago.

Eric Carraway, 24, Brandon Scott, 19, Antonio Moses, 30, and Dawnyell Flynn, 26, were all arrested Jan. 19 after allegedly trying to flee the scene of the crime. Carraway, Scott and Moses were charged with felony robbery while Flynn was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, also a felony.

All four are residents of Los Angeles and three are currently on parole for prior felonies, according to Sgt. David Livingstone with the SVPD.

According to a police report, the suspects used handguns to overpower their two victims, Troy Junge of San Diego and Matthew Presby of Simi Valley. In the scuffle, Junge, 30, and Presby, 37, suffered minor injuries, but still had the wherewithal, Livingstone said, to call police immediately.

"They didn't just go, 'Hey, here you go,' and forget about it. They tried to resist them," said Livingstone, who was the first responding officer on the scene. "One of them was able to make it to a phone and make a call."

Thanks to helicopter air support lent by the Los Angeles and Glendale police departments, and the use of local K-9s, Simi police had the suspects in custody in less than an hour and a half, Livingstone said.

Livingstone said the suspects probably didn't pick the best town in which to commit a crime.

"What happens in Simi, because we're such a tightknit community, we respond overwhelmingly and rapidly," he said. "These people find when they had a 10minute window (to escape) in L.A. or another big metropolitan area, in Simi that time is down to less than a minute."
