Practice underway for Simi Valley Special Olympians

Preparation has begun for the upcoming Special Olympics Track and Field competition.

Young adults, teens and children, ages 8 and up, with disabilities are invited to participate.

The track and field event practices are from 10 to 11:30 a.m. most Saturdays at the ARC facility at 5143 Cochran St. in Simi Valley.

Practices will continue until the Special Olympics competition takes place in early May.

Participants will develop skills in running, shot put and other track and field events.

No experience is necessary, and coaching will be provided.

This year's coaches are Jennifer Williams and Amzie Meredith. Williams is a special education teacher at Garden Grove Elementary School.

Meredith works at the facility offering training and other independent living skills for adults with developmental disabilities.
