Gunshots fired in clash between area gang members, 2 arrested

Danny Moreno, 19, and Kyle Ramirez, 19, were arrested Monday and charged with shooting at a van occupied by two Thousand Oaks residents, according to the Simi Valley Police Department.

The shooting took place Sunday night near the intersection of Fourth Street and Ventura Avenue. The incident involved a small-caliber handgun as bullets struck the front passenger door and the vehicle's gas tank, according to police.

The altercation began when Moreno and Ramirez noticed the two victims purchasing fuel at a gas station in the 700 block of Los Angeles Avenue. They shouted the name of a gang at the victims, then followed them in their vehicle before opening fire, the report said.

According to police, the primary victim grew up in the Simi Valley area and had ties to a Simi gang.

Bail for Moreno and Ramirez has been set at $60,000 and $50,000 respectively.

On Wednesday, the Simi Valley police executed search warrants on Hope Street and Avenida Vista del Monte as part of their investigation into the incident.

"We recovered some evidence related to the shooting, and we also arrested two additional gang associates on charges unrelated to the shooting," said Lt. Greg Riegert.
