Father arrested on suspicion of abusing his 3-month-old
Medical staff at Simi Valley Hospital alerted police to the possible abuse

A 28-year-old Simi Valley man was arrested this week on child abuse charges for allegedly causing bodily harm to his then 3month-old son.

According to police reports, Don Wenburg-Gomez was arrested at the Ventura County Jail on Tuesday following a fourmonth investigation into the alleged abuse. Wenburg-Gomez was already in custody on an unrelated charge.

The case first came to police attention Sept. 29, 2006, when medical staff at the Simi Valley Hospital contacted authorities after treating a baby suffering from severe subdural hemotoma, retinal hemorrhaging and multiple rib fractures.

According to the police, the mother brought the young child to the emergency room claiming he was "lethargic and unresponsive."

The child was hospitalized in Los Angeles and taken into protective custody.

Investigators said both WenburgGomez and his wife denied any knowledge as to how the child was injured when first interviewed.
